- Recipe Card: Attach a card with the following instructions:
Healing Ayurvedic Kitchari Recipe
Ingredients:
- ½ cup split mung beans (moong dal)
- ½ cup basmati rice
- 4 cups water
- 1 tablespoon ghee (or coconut oil for a vegan option)
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- ½ teaspoon minced fresh ginger
- ¼ teaspoon ground turmeric
- 1 teaspoon sea salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- Optional garnishes: chopped fresh cilantro, lime or lemon slices
Instructions:
- Soak Rice and Beans: Combine rice and mung beans in a bowl. Cover with water and soak for 15-20 minutes. Drain and rinse until the water runs clear.
- Sauté Spices: In a medium pot, heat ghee over medium-low heat. Add cumin seeds and cook until fragrant and slightly browned (about 1 minute). Stir in ginger and turmeric.
- Combine and Cook: Add the drained rice and mung beans to the pot, stirring to coat with the spices. Pour in 4 cups of water, add salt and pepper, and bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover, and let it simmer for about 30 minutes, or until the rice and beans are tender.
- Serve: Garnish with fresh cilantro and a squeeze of lime or lemon juice.
- Ghee
- Include a small jar of ghee, a traditional Ayurvedic staple that supports digestion, lubricates the joints, and provides warmth, making it ideal for the winter months.
- Chai Wallah’s Rooibos Tea – grab some from your local co-op
- Add a package of caffeine-free rooibos chai blend, rich in warming spices that promote circulation and support digestion—perfect for grounding and nourishing.
- A reusable tea infuser for loose-leaf tea.
- Lemons and Local Honey
- Include fresh lemons and a jar of raw local honey.
- Attach a note explaining the benefits of starting the day with warm lemon water (stimulates digestion, helps flush toxins, and balances the body’s pH).
- Wooden Honey Dipper: Include a wooden honey spoon, traditionally used in Ayurveda to preserve the purity and energetic qualities of honey. Wood is thought to keep the natural properties of honey intact, unlike metal, which can react with the honey and alter its beneficial effects.

Give Love
The Most Meaningful Gift
At the heart of any gift is love, connection, and kindness. Yoga teaches us that flourishing isn’t just about what we have—it’s about how we connect with ourselves and others. Whether it’s through a thoughtful gesture, a shared experience, or a simple act of kindness, love is the ultimate gift that keeps on giving.
